PENINSULA PASTORAL COMPANY
..
Peninsula Pastoral Company is a family owned and operated farming business specialising in breeding and fattening Prime New Zealand cattle and sheep for sale.
Peninsula Pastoral Company encompasses two expansive properties; a breeding farm located at the top of the Coromandel Peninsula and a fattening farm on the foothills of the Hauraki Plains – land that has been zealously farmed by the Ward Family for generations as it continues to be today.
Our South Devon, Shorthorn and Hereford cattle are 100% grass fed with minimal antibiotic use. Grown and fattened in a low stress environment. They are born with sea views and farmed with love.
COLVILLE BREEDING FARM
C O R O M A N D E L P E N I N S U L A
Running along the coastline of the beautiful Hauraki Gulf, Peninsula Pastoral Company's Colville property features steep country that rolls down to expansive flats, providing the perfect environment for breeding young stock and giving them the best start in life.
Two thirds of the property is abundant with native bush including Manuka, Kauri, Puriri, Pohutakawa and other natives. The Colville property has many clean stoney bottomed creeks which run out from the Moehau Mountain through the farm and into the ocean.
PATETONGA, FATTENING BLOCK
H A U R A K I P L A I N S
Overlooking the Hauraki Plains towards the picturesque Kaimai Ranges, Peninsula Pastoral Company's Patetonga farm serves as the fattening farm of the operation.
The land is rolling to flat with some steeper areas. There are some stands of tall Kanuka with ferns and other native flora. A fenced off small clean creek runs through the farm.
HISTORY
In 1884 The Ward Family Settled on the Coromandel Peninsula with one Title running Shorthorn Cattle. Then through to 1920 the Wards formed the title of ‘The Ward Brothers’.
In 1953 Marcus Ward (who is one of the three share holders of Peninsula Pastoral Company alongside his two sons) left School and started working on the land with the rest of the family.
In 1960 Marcus’s Uncle Jim cleared and started working the land around Waiaro which is part of the home farm where Marcus Ward lives today.
Peninsula Pastoral Company was formed when the Wards brought the Patetonga Farm in 2001.
John Ward manages the breeding block on the Coromandel Peninsula and Simon Ward manages the Fattening block located in Patetonga.
Our aim is to look after and respect what we have inherited for future generations. We run our stocking numbers at a rate that has a minimum footprint on the land. We have no planted crops and only use slow releasing fertiliser every two years. For us farming is a lifestyle that’s been handed down through time, everything we have gets put back into the land.
